GOOD NEWS!

The Supreme Court (Council of State) of Greece with its 2335/2009 ruling has annulled a previous decisionof the Minister of Culture since 30.8.07 which lifted the "Monument and Work of Art" protection status of the Athenian Art Deco listed building of 17 Dion. Areopagitou.
The Supreme Court states that:
  • Both listed buildings at Nos 17 & 19 were part of the original design brief for the New Museum.
  • The Central Archeological Council (KAS) believed that the presence of the two buildings facilitate the incorporation of the Museum into the Athenian urban tissue.
  • The two listed buildings add to the formation of the unified archiectural front of Dion. Areopagitou str, which surrounds the monuments of the Acropolis as a protection zone.
  • The lifting of the protection status contravenes the International Granada Convention regarding the European Architectural Heritage.
We hope that after the final Supreme's Court's decision both the listed buildings and the Museum will coexist harmoniously and the Ministry of Culture will give the necessary permission for the enhancement of the rear facades.

We want to thank our neighbours, the people from Athens and all over the World for their sincere concern, their valuable collaboration, as well as the 48.000 signed protests!!
